Investment Strategy

To achieve its investment objective, Excel BRIC Fund may invest up to 100% of its assets in mutual funds which, in turn, invest primarily in equity and debt securities issued by companies based in BRIC Countries or other emerging market countries. Excel BRIC Fund may also invest directly in equity and/or debt securities of a company located anywhere in the world which, in the opinion of the portfolio advisor, has significant business or investment connections to a BRIC Country or other emerging market.

In order to gain exposure to the economies of BRIC Countries and other emerging markets on cost effective basis, it is expected that the Excel BRIC Fund will be primarily invested in units of the Excel Latin America Fund, Excel Emerging Europe Fund, Excel India Fund and the Excel China Fund. Each of these other Funds are also managed by Excel Funds.

While the portfolio advisor will strive to strategically allocate Excel BRIC Fund's investment exposure across BRIC Countries and other emerging markets in a diversified manner, the portfolio advisor may concentrate the Fund's investments in a particular BRIC Country or in another emerging market country depending upon prevailing market conditions and available investment opportunities.

The Fund may invest in derivatives like options, futures and forward contracts for hedging purposes as permitted by Canadian securities regulators. Derivatives may also be used by the Fund for non hedging purposes such as to gain exposure to individual stocks or to seek to enhance returns. Under adverse market, economic or political conditions or for other considerations, Excel BRIC Fund may also invest its assets in cash, cash equivalents (in any currency) or short-term fixed income securities for defensive or other purposes.
