Bhim D. Asdhir
President and Chief Executive Officer The story of Excel Funds Management cannot be told without recounting the visionary leadership of Bhim D. Asdhir, its founder. Bhim has provided the direction, leadership, and strategy for Excel Funds' growth for more than ten years. He also has presided over the growth of the business from a start-up operation to one that boasts of phenomenal success today, always increasing its dominance and authority in emerging markets.
Bhim graduated from the University of Waterloo in 1987 with a double degree in Actuarial Science and Computer Science. Bhim was also the recipient of the prestigious Descartes Award in Mathematics from the University of Waterloo. His professional life began in 1987 when he joined Watson Wyatt, an actuarial consulting firm based in Toronto. In his ten years at the firm, he specialized in setting up and managing insurance companies for key clients. However, it was on a trip to India where Bhim realized what Canadian investors had been missing. In 1998, Excel India Fund was born and the Excel Funds Management growth story began.
In June 2007, the Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce awarded Bhim the honour of Male Entrepreneur of the Year. He has been published by numerous prominent Canadian business publications and has made many radio and television appearances, such as the Globe and Mail, BNN, and CNBC, to name a few. Bhim is well-recognized by global media as a noted authority on India's equity markets.
Glenn W. Cooper
Chief Financial Officer and Director Glenn Cooper earned a Master of Business Administration and Bachelor of Commerce from McMaster University. In 1973 he became a Chartered Accountant. With more than thirty years financial experience, Glenn has served as the President and Chief Executive Officer for Independent Equity Research Corporation and Citigroup Fund Services Canada Inc. Previously, Glenn held senior operational and financial executive positions with Canadian Tire Corporation and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board. Glenn is a member of the CICA Accounting Standards Board User Advisory Council.
Paul Mesburis, MBA, CA, CFA
Senior Portfolio Manager
Paul Mesburis has more than 15 years of experience in the financial services industry. His capital markets experience encompasses roles for both buy-side and sell-side firms. On the buy-side, his previous roles have included Vice President and Portfolio Manager of an equity mutual fund at a Canadian public financial services company. On the sell-side, his investment experience includes mergers and acquisitions, investment banking, and institutional equity research. His previous sell-side roles have included Vice President of Mergers & Acquisitions and Institutional Equity Research Analyst at both global and domestic bank-owned investment dealers. Mr. Mesburis is a Chartered Accountant (Ontario) and a Chartered Financial Analyst. He earned his MBA from the Schulich School of Business at York University and a B.A. from the University of Toronto.
David Kunselman, CFA
Senior Portfolio Manager
David B. Kunselman has over 10 years of investment management experience. Prior to his appointment at Excel Investment Counsel Inc., Mr. Kunselman was Vice President and Portfolio Manager at Morrison Williams Investment Management in Toronto where he oversaw more than $3.5 billion in assets.
Mr. Kunselman holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Finance and is a CFA charter holder. He is also a member of the Toronto Society of Financial Analysts.
